Worship at Home for July 26, 2020
Due to the spread of Covid-19, we are taking a sabbatical from our normal Sunday morning gathering, but unity and community are more important than ever before in this season of uncertainty. To help facilitate this, we are providing an online service so that, one in heart, we can worship together even as we maintain distance out of love for our neighbors. This is designed to be used on your own or together as a family or community. We hope this resource is a blessing to you. Remember to check in on friends and neighbors with calls or text, especially the elderly among us and others who are particularly vulnerable. You can also check out the services from 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21, 6/28, 7/5, 7/12, and 7/19.
This Sunday, once again we are connecting as a church body using Zoom video chat. Here’s the schedule and instructions for joining in!
10-10:30 - Connect and informal checking in
10:30-11:00 - Prayers of the People, and Joys and Concerns
[**If you’re newer to Zoom or know that technology can be challenging, try signing on closer to 10:15 am so that we can have plenty of time to help you figure it out before Prayers of the People starts. Paula, who helped organize this, will help you!]

Opening Songs
Centering Song
Call to Worship (Psalm 105:1-4)
O give thanks to the Lord, call on God’s name, make known the Lord’s deeds among the
peoples.
Sing to the Lord, sing praises to God; tell of all the Lord’s wonderful works.
Glory in God’s holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Seek the Lord and God’s strength; seek the Lord’s presence continually.

Seeking the Shalom of the City
The Jewish Family and Children Services Mobile Food Pantry is not slowing down for the summer! Recent distribution stops include new partners like Westminster Presbyterian Church and returning ones like Capital Area YMCA and Better Beginnings Child Development Center. Their mobile pantry has been on the road for 6 months and has served over 6,000 individuals. Over the past few months, as need has grown, so has their incredible network of partners. With new and sustaining connections, they are able to reach more in need here in Mercer.

Also, we pray that God continue to bless the efforts of the Westminster/Capital Area YMCA partnership as we help distribute 480 breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday to now over 200 youth 18 years and younger.
Also during this time, we encourage you to pray for friends and family, neighbors, our city, our country, and the world. Particularly keep in mind those who are most vulnerable during this time: the elderly and immuno-compromised who are particularly vulnerable to infection, the poor who are particularly vulnerable economically as daycares and businesses close, and those without healthcare coverage.
Pray also for all our healthcare workers who face a daunting task ahead and who place themselves in harm’s way in love and service to their community.
Prayers for Westminster nurses Rachel and Chiquera, and corrections officer Latipha; all three are caring for people with COVID 19.
Finally, take a moment to listen for the voice of God. How is God inviting you to seek the shalom of the city in light of the spreading corona virus? Perhaps there is someone who God is calling you to check in on, perhaps a text or call with encouragement for someone who is suffering, perhaps a donation to an organization on the front lines. Listen for God’s invitation and make plans to respond in love and obedience.
Call to Confession and Reconciliation
Happy are those who fear the Lord, who walk in God’s ways. We come to this time of confession, seeking to walk in God’s ways, aware that we often take other paths that do not lead to abundant life. We trust God’s mercy and promise to forgive as we name aloud the ways in which we have fallen short and failed to follow Jesus Christ.
Lord, you search our hearts and see the places where they are hardened and resistant to your will. In this time of much upheaval and pain, we frequently turn away from those in need, seeking our own security instead of the well-being of all creation. We let petty differences separate us from one another. We allow self-interest to overwhelm your commandment to love our neighbors. We fail to see your image evident in every person. Forgive us, we pray, and in your mercy redirect us so that we can once again walk in your ways. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon (Romans 8:33-34)
Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.
Friends, believe the good news, through Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

Our Father in heaven
Hallowed be Your name
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us today our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever
Amen.
